Dr. K.Y. Chye

Specialist Orthodontist
B.Dent.Sc.(T.C.D.), M.A., M.Sc.D.(U.Wales), M.Orth.(R.C.S.Ed.)

Dr Chye, originally from Malaysia, completed his secondary schooling in Sandford Park School, Ranelagh, Dublin and The High School, Rathgar, Dublin. While his dental training was done in Dublin Dental Hospital (University of Dublin, Trinity College Dublin). Dr. Chye obtained his dental qualification in 1989. Later, he did his three years full-time post-graduate specialist orthodontic training at the University of Wales College of Medicine Dental School (Orthodontic Department), Cardiff, Wales, U.K. in 1996 and qualified as a specialist orthodontist in 1999.

Dr. Chye has been practicing in his own private orthodontic clinic in Mullingar since 2002 and has been a practicing specialist orthodontist in Ireland since 1999. Dr. Chye has a strong interest in the use of the highly efficient self-ligating bracket systems in treating his orthodontic patients and has given lectures to other orthodontists on the subject of using this system.

Dr. Chye is providing Invisalign aligners to treat patients who are looking for a set of discreet braces and have the convenience of being able to enjoy their meals during their course of orthodontic treatment. The current G6 Invisalign aligners is made from a totally different type of material compared to its first generation Invisalign aligners, which were introduced in 1999. This new material plus the tooth coloured attachments have now totally revolutionised the way the Invisalign alingers can move teeth in the patients’ mouth. Invisalign aligners is now a new exciting way to have your teeth aligned/straightened and to have your bite matched up. You can now have your orthodontic treatment without the worries of showing off your braces as the Invisalign aligners are totally clear. You can now enjoy your meals without having any worries of foods being trapped around your fixed braces (“train tracks”). Now you do not need to adjust your diet that much when wearing Invisalign aligners as you can remove your Invisalign aligners to enjoy your meals. Dr. Chye is now a Platinum Elite Invisalign provider, a status awarded by Align Technology (maker of Invisalign braces) in recognition of the number of cases that has been treated by Dr. Chye with Invisalingn braces.

Dr. Chye treats a broad range of patients from children to adults. Dr. Chye also provides lingual braces (e.g. Incognito or WIN Lingual) for suitable cases. While in some cases Dr. Chye will be treating patients with an orthognathic surgeon when the upper and lower jaw discrepancy of these patients are too great to give a satisfactory treatment outcome with just fixed braces on its own. Hence the orthognathic surgeon will be resetting the jaw/s for these patients as part of their orthodontic treatment.

Dr. Chye’s orthodontic philosophy is to provide the best possible dental and facial outcome for his patients.

Dr. Chye is a registered specialist orthodontist with the Irish Dental Council (Specialist Division of Orthodontics Registration Number 9DSO1) and is an active member of the Orthodontic Society of Ireland (OSI), American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), European Orthodontic Society (EOS) and the World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO).

Dr Chye is delighted to be your local Smile Specialist in Westmeath. Your Smile Specialist is Ireland's premier Independent Orthodontic Partnership, dedicated to providing high quality treatment you can trust.
